The European Union is negotiating an agricultural trade deal with the United States. However, the welfare of animals that will be part of the trade is being left out of the agreement.
Dear Iro,
Foreign trade agreements have historically treated animals as commodities and not accounted for their welfare. The newest transatlantic trade agreement -- the TTIP -- is no exception. It's time we put the needs of these sentient beings above agricultural profits. While intended to expand the US and EU agricultural markets, TTIP will allow products from inhumane, industrial farms in the US to compete with high welfare EU products. The TTIP completely ignores the fact that the EU citizens have emphatically expressed support for banning inhumane farming practices. We cannot allow politicians to overwrite the majority opinion. Send a message to the European Parliament to show them that we will not allow them to ignore our wishes!
